The Honesdale National Bank Promotes Mortgage Manager

Thomas E. Sheridan Jr., President, and CEO of The Honesdale National Bank, announced Deborah Saracino has been promoted to VP, Residential Mortgage Manager.

In making the announcement Sheridan stated, “Debbie’s extensive experience and leadership in mortgage lending are tremendous assets to our team.” He continued, “Her knowledge and commitment to excellence will greatly contribute to our success and help us achieve our strategic objectives, ensuring we continue to deliver outstanding service to our clients.”

As VP, Residential Mortgage Manager, Saracino will be responsible for the comprehensive management and oversight of residential mortgage operations. This includes the production, processing, closing, and servicing of mortgage loans. She will ensure the seamless execution of all phases of the mortgage lifecycle, maintaining high standards of accuracy, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

Currently residing in Penn Lake, PA, she brings over 30 years of experience in mortgage lending. Her extensive career includes roles as a mortgage loan officer and as a mortgage department manager, showcasing her comprehensive expertise in the industry.

In commenting on her new role at the bank, Saracino noted, “My entire career is about making the dream of homeownership a reality. The joy I have witnessed in doing so, is amazing.”

Outside of the Bank, she is on the Board of Directors of the Penn Lake Association. Additionally, she enjoys spending time with her family, especially her two grandchildren.

The Honesdale National Bank Promotes Landon Firmstone

Thomas E. Sheridan Jr., President, and CEO of The Honesdale National Bank, announced Landon Firmstone has been promoted to Cash Management Specialist.

In making the announcement Sheridan stated, “Landon’s dedication to continuous learning and his ability to foster strong client relationships have been reflective of our mission and HNB culture.” He continued, “We are confident that he will bring the same level of excellence and commitment to his new role, contributing significantly to our team’s success.”

As Cash Management Specialist, Firmstone will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Cash Management sector. This includes managing customer interactions, servicing and installing equipment, and ensuring customers are matched with the most suitable products for their needs.

He is a graduate of Western Wayne High School and has received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management degree from Marywood University.

Firmstone currently resides in Waymart, PA, and began his career in the financial industry with The Honesdale National Bank in October 2023. He was previously the Management Trainee, an experience that allowed him to learn extensively and form relationships with fellow employees and customers.

In commenting on his new role at the bank, Firmstone noted, “I have learned so much about all the banking industry and have formed great relationships with my colleagues. HNB has a fantastic atmosphere, and it is evident that everyone is on the same team. All employees are always willing to help each other and make you feel invited no matter which office you are in. I feel as if I have the groundwork to have a long career here at HNB.”

Outside of the Bank, he is a member of the Honesdale Area Jaycees and is also the current Tournament Director for Honest Anglers.

Additionally, he enjoys hunting, fishing and golfing in his free time.

The Honesdale National Bank Announces New VP

Marlie Martines Promoted to VP, Chief Risk Officer

Thomas E. Sheridan Jr., President, and CEO of The Honesdale National Bank, announced Marlie Martines has been promoted to VP, Chief Risk Officer.

In making the announcement Sheridan stated, “Marlie has consistently demonstrated exceptional skill and leadership in risk management, effectively contributing to our organization’s success and stability.” He continued, “As she steps into the role of Vice President, Chief Risk Officer, I am confident that her vision will greatly enhance our risk strategies and help us effectively navigate the evolving financial landscape.”

As VP, Chief Risk Officer, Martines will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across all aspects of the bank.

She is a graduate of Forest City Regional High School and has received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Master’s in Public Administration from West Chester University.

Currently residing in Vandling, PA, she brings over 12 years of experience in the finance sector, specializing in risk management and compliance.

In commenting on her new role at the bank, Martines noted, “Whether it is through our normal banking services or the donations and service hours of our employees, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride to be able to see the direct impact the bank has within our community.”

Outside of the Bank, she is a volunteer for the Brian M Sheare Memorial Fund, as well as a Hero for St. Jude Children’s Resource Hospital.

Additionally, she enjoys running, reading, home renovating, and spending time with her nieces and nephews.

The Honesdale National Bank Announces New Assistant VP

Theodor Radu Promoted to Assistant VP, Trust Officer

In making the announcement Sheridan stated, “Ted’s commitment to our clients and our community has made a significant impact on our team.” He continued, “His ability to foster relationships and deliver outstanding service truly embodies the values of our bank, and we are proud to have him.”

As Assistant VP, Trust Officer, Radu oversees the management of the client portfolios. As such, it is his job to set investment policy standards, recommend appropriate investments for clients and analyze portfolios. He also works with clients to develop their financial plans, a roadmap to help them manage their finances to achieve their goals.

He is a graduate of Honesdale High School and has received a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from West Chester University. Additionally, he is a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) and a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®).

Currently residing in Honesdale, PA, he began career in the financial industry with HNB, starting as a teller and gradually advanced through various positions in deposit operations and financial services. He gained further experience working for a regional bank in southeast PA before returning to HNB in his current role as Trust Officer.

In commenting on his new role at the bank, Radu noted, “HNB has always been supportive of its employees. Throughout my 15 years here, I’ve held various roles across departments, allowing me to explore different career paths within banking. I was fortunate to find my place in the Trust Department, where the bank continues to encourage my growth through education and networking resources, community involvement, and career advancement.”

Outside of the Bank, as a father of a three-year-old, he has little time for hobbies. When he does find time, he often goes hiking, golfing, and enjoys being outdoors as much as possible. He is thankful to live in a diverse and beautiful area with a never-ending supply of opportunities for outdoor exploration.

Additionally, he serves as Trustee for the Board of Trustees of the Wayne County Historical Society located in Honesdale.

The Honesdale National Bank Announces Retirement of President

William Schweighofer, Chairman of the Board for The Honesdale National Bank announced today that Thomas E. Sheridan, Jr.  the Bank’s President and CEO will retire from his more than 40 years in banking effective February 2025. Kate Bryant has been named his successor and will serve as the Bank’s first female president and CEO as the next step in her more than 20-year career with HNB.

In making the announcement, Schweighofer stated, “Tom Sheridan has truly helped shape the strength and stability of The Honesdale National Bank over his extensive career with us, and the Board is truly grateful for his leadership.” He continued, “Kate Bryant holds the leadership, character, and expertise to continue the Bank’s mission forward and we will surely see her succeed in this new role.”

“HNB has an outstanding history in our local area, and I am truly grateful for having been given the opportunity to contribute to our Bank’s growth and success,” said Sheridan. “Kate’s leadership will undoubtedly aid the Bank in continuing to support the evolving needs of our customers, communities, and the interests of our shareholders.”

“Since 1836, The Honesdale National Bank has built a legacy of serving our employees, customers, shareholders, and community and it is an honor and privilege to lead the continuation of these values well into the future,” said Bryant. 

Bryant has served as the Bank’s Chief Financial Officer since 2016, through which she is responsible for managing the financial analysis, risk, planning, and performance of the bank and helps enable its strategic directives. She had been previously promoted to Senior Vice President, CFO in 2020 and Executive Vice President, CFO in 2023.

Bryant began her career in the financial industry in 1999, starting in the banking industry in 2003. She joined HNB in 2004 in the Accounting Department and helped shepherd the development of accounting and Bank Security Act (BSA) functions.

Bryant resides in Honesdale, and is a graduate of Honesdale High School. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Finance and Minor in Economics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She later received her Master of Business Administration from Villanova University. Her professional accolades include certifications from the ABA Wharton Leadership Lab, Financial Managers School, Chamber Leadership Wayne, the Penn State Supervisory Program, and PBA School of Banking, She has been recognized as a Dress for Success Lackawanna Woman of Impact as well as a NEPA Business Journal Top 25 Women in Business.

Outside of the bank, she serves on the board of trustees for the Wayne County Community Foundation, Wayne Memorial Hospital, and as a board member for the Chamber of the Northern Poconos. She actively volunteers with Honesdale Friends of Football, Herd the Curd 5K/10K committee, and the Wayne County 4-H program. She has formerly served on the boards of the Wayne Memorial Hospital Foundation and Wayne County Public Library. In her spare time, she can be found spending time with her sons Abraham and Caleb, and husband, Zack.

As Assistant VP, Senior Credit Analyst, Sweeney will be responsible for providing financial analysis relating to commercial lending, to determine credit worthiness.

He is a graduate of Valley View High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Finance from Pennsylvania State University.

Currently residing in Jessup, PA, he started his 32-year career in the financial industry as an Accountant and Financial Analyst for a manufacturing company.

In commenting on his new role at the bank, Sweeney noted, “I am grateful for the opportunities that HNB has provided me. This organization cares about its employees and the customers they serve. I am proud to be a part of that.”

Outside of the Bank, Sweeney enjoys spending time with his family and friends.

Brown is a graduate of Lake Lehman High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Lock Haven University.

Currently residing in Wilkes Barre, PA, he started his 11-year career in the financial industry at a local financial institution as a universal banker and progressively advanced to his current role. He has consistently engaged directly with business clients, demonstrating a keen interest in the dynamic nature of business operations and the continuous evolution of enterprises.

In this role, he is responsible for addressing the lending needs of businesses and investors daily. This includes engaging with clients and key influencers to review and discuss the various lending options that HNB provides for their business or client requirements.

In describing his recent move to HNB, Brown said, “After the first week with HNB, I have found the experience to be exceptional. The team has been notably welcoming and accommodating, creating a positive and supportive environment. I look forward to the opportunities and experiences that lie ahead.”

In his free time, he is actively engaged in his son’s extracurricular activities, particularly soccer. He is currently serving as a coach for the Hanover Area Youth Soccer program.

Additionally, he dedicates himself to cultivating Chestnut trees. Each year, he grows approximately 1,500 trees, which are distributed to clients across the Eastern United States.

Jessica Spare Joins HNB as VP, Commercial Loan Officer

Spare is a graduate of Hazelton Area High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from Pennsylvania State University.

Currently residing in Drums, PA, she started her 27-year career in the financial industry at a local financial institution as a Teller. From there she progressed to CSR, Credit Analyst, Portfolio Manager, Small Business Lender, and eventually Commercial Loan Officer. She will continue at HNB as VP, Commercial Loan Officer.

In this role, she is responsible for the development and management of commercial loan customers to establish long-term banking relationships in the Luzerne County market.

In describing her recent move to HNB, Spare said, “I am excited to be a part of the HNB family! It is clear to see that everyone works together as a team and supports each other to achieve success!”

Spare is a member of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce and the Hazleton Area High School Baseball Booster Club. She currently serves as Chair of a Women in Business Planning sub-committee along with a number of other leadership roles in the community.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and volunteering in the community.

HNB Hamlin Office Promotes Jessica Gay to Branch Manager

The Honesdale National Bank and Thomas E. Sheridan Jr., President, and CEO, announced Jessica Gay as Branch Manager of the Bank’s Hamlin Office.

In making the statement, Sheridan noted, “Jess has been a thought leader as she has grown through our management trainee program.” He continued, “Her leadership skills will be providing a great foundation to connect our team and provide great service to our customers at our Hamlin Office.”

Gay is a graduate of Honesdale High School and received an associate degree from Lackawanna College.

Currently residing in Beach Lake, PA, she started her career at a local pharmacy as a pharmacy sales associate. She then started her now five-year banking career as a teller at another local financial institution. She was then promoted to Universal Banker in a few short years. In 2022, she accepted a position at HNB as a Management Trainee and is now promoted to Branch Manager.

In this role, she is responsible for promoting and developing new customer relationships, managing new employees and customer expectations, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Hamlin Office.

In describing her time with HNB, Gay said, “Working at The Honesdale National Bank has given me so many opportunities to grow not only professionally, but also personally. The knowledge I have been able to gain from my time at HNB has been unmatched by anything I have ever experienced before.” She continued, “I am honored to be part of such a phenomenal community bank, and I can’t wait to see what this next chapter of my career holds.”

Gay is the secretary for The Beach Lake Fire Company’s Auxiliary. She is also a member of the Wayne County Business & Professional Women’s Club.
