Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre and the ASM Global-managed Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre Twp. are teaming up once again to present a concert, this time featuring Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit LIVE at The F.M. The North Alabama native possesses an incredible penchant for identifying and articulating some of the deepest, yet simplest, human emotions, and turning them into beautiful poetry through song. Isbell sings of the everyday human condition with thoughtful, heartfelt, and sometimes brutal honesty. Isbell broke through in 2013 with the release of Southeastern. His next two albums, Something More Than Free (2015) and The Nashville Sound (2017), won Grammy Awards for Best Americana Album & Best American Roots Song. Isbell’s song “Maybe It’s Time” was featured in the 2019 reboot of A Star Is Born. His most recent full-length album, Reunions (2020), is a critically-acclaimed collection of ten new songs that showcases an artist at the height of his powers and a band fully charged with creativity and confidence. In April of 2021, it was announced that Isbell would appear in the upcoming Martin Scorsese film, Killers of the Flower Moon. Open Skate at Mohegan Sun Arena Returns December 2nd to Benefit Toys for Tots The ASM Global managed Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza will open its doors once again for public ice skating on Thursday, December 2nd for the Toys for Tots Open Skate presented by Utz in support of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. Anyone bringing a new, unwrapped toy or making a $5.00 contribution to Toys for Tots is permitted to participate in the Open Skate. The Open Skate will run from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Complimentary snacks will be available for guests’ courtesy of Utz Snack Foods and light refreshments will be available for purchase with partial proceeds donated to Toys for Tots. All guests in attendance will have the opportunity to win some great prizes while at the event including tickets to select Mohegan Sun Arena events. This is the only day throughout the year that the public is allowed to skate on the ice at Mohegan Sun Arena, home to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Patrons must bring their own skates to participate in the Open Skate. Mohegan Sun Arena will not have skates on site for rent and all guests that will be going on to the ice will need to be wearing skates. Mohegan Sun Arena to Host Comedian Bill Burr in June 2022 Bill Burr announces spring and summer North American dates for his Live Nation produced 2022 arena and amphitheater tour, Bill Burr (Slight Return), visiting 23 cities from April through August including a stop in Wilkes-Barre at the ASM Global managed Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza on June 16th. Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza to Host Excess Inventory Sale On behalf of the Luzerne County Convention Center Authority, the ASM Global staff at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza will host an “Excess Inventory Sale” on Saturday, September 25th from 7AM-11AM inside the venue’s West Gate Entrance. Mohegan Sun Arena will have gently used furniture, appliances, A/V equipment, pickup truck and kitchen equipment for sale.
