RailRiders Add to Summer Fun at PNC Field

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders have updated and added to their 2023 promotional schedule as the second half of the season has now begun. A classic 90’s musical act, fireworks news and a rescheduled giveaway have been added to the updated slate.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is home all week, hosting the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at PNC Field for the first time this season. The fireworks show on Friday, July 7, is presented by Shur Save. The game on Saturday, July 8, features a commemorative poster honoring Aaron Judge’s historic 2022 season when he set a new American League record with 62 home runs. Gates open at 5 P.M. The first 2,000 fans will receive this great poster courtesy of the Times Leader Media Group.


The RailRiders have added fireworks on July 22 after the game against the Worcester Red Sox, making up for a rained-out show in June. That night also features the second bobblehead giveaway of the season; an Anthony Volpe bobblehead presented by Geisinger on Retro Video Game Night.

The Jackie Robinson RailRiders jersey giveaway, originally slated for April, has been rescheduled for August 11. The first 2,000 fans will receive a replica SWB “42” home jersey honoring the great who broke baseball’s color barrier.

PARTY PEOPLE! On August 26, we’re kickin’ the flow as TAG TEAM joins the 90s Night celebration. DC The Brain Supreme and Steve Roll’n head to PNC Field for a plush bucket hat giveaway, a game against Lehigh Valley, custom jerseys to be auctioned off and a 90s post game dance party bash.

The Honesdale National Bank Promotes Member to Vice President

Thomas E. Sheridan Jr., President, and CEO of The Honesdale National Bank, announced Thomas Zurla been promoted to Vice President, Training & Development Officer at HNB.

In making the announcement, Sheridan stated, “We are excited to give Tom the lead in this new role.” He continued, “He consistently shows enthusiasm and strategy in considering our opportunities to grow our team and support customer service levels and we can’t wait to have them translate into an ever-growing customer experience.”  

As Vice President, Training & Development Officer, Zurla will be working with new and existing team members to increase their skill set and help provide a higher and consistent level of customer service. He will work on enhancing and implementing more streamlined practices for both front and back-office employees to elevate the customer experience.

Zurla began his career in banking at another financial institution as a Teller/CSR in 1997 and has since held positions including Relationship Manager, Assistant Branch Manager/Branch Manager Retail Banking Training Coordinator, and AVP, Community Office Manager at. He joined HNB as AVP, Area Manager in 2022 based in the Bank’s Clarks Summit Office.

In commenting on his new position at HNB, Zurla noted, “HNB has brought me back to my roots of what it means to be a part of a community bank and be part of a family of bankers. We take pride in our culture and history and do our best every single day to give our customers the “HNB & Me” experience they have long associated us with.”

Zurla is a graduate Coughlin High School, Graduate of Luzerne County Community College and has obtained a degree in Business Management – Technology and holds and NMLS Certification.

Outside of the bank, he is a Board Member of the Rotary of the Abington’s, Treasurer and Vestry Member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Alzheimer’s Association volunteer, and an organist/Soloist at Various Churches throughout NEPA.

Providence Promotes Staff Member to Vice President

Providence Engineering is pleased to announce Dr. Jonathan U. Dougherty has been promoted to Vice President, Strategic Initiatives. Dr. J., as he is known around the firm, will be responsible for setting the direction and executing strategic initiatives including recruiting, professional development, and our employee stock ownership plan (ESOP), among others.

Dr. J. joined Providence Engineering in 2022 after a seventeen-year career with a large regional building contractor. Additionally, Dougherty is a former adjunct professor at Virginia Tech and taught for several years in the department of architectural engineering at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park.

Dr. J. brings nearly 25 years of academic and industry experience to his role. He earned his Bachelor of Architectural Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University and continued his academic career at Penn State, earning his Doctor of Philosophy in Architectural Engineering. He is a champion of students and lifelong learning, as evidenced by his service to various universities and the architecture, engineering, and construction industry. As an alumni leader, Dougherty is an emeritus member of the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Campus Advisory Board, current President for the Penn State Engineering Alumni Society (PSEAS) and founding Board Member and former President of the Penn State Alumni Society of Architectural Engineers (ASAE). His industry service includes being a former Trustee for the Baltimore-Washington Laborer’s Joint Training Fund, serving on the Montgomery College (MD) Construction Industry Advisory Committee, and serving as former Chairperson of the Architectural Engineering Institute’s International Student Design Competition.

FNCB Bank Names New Nanticoke Community Office Manager

FNCB Bank, locally-based since 1910, today announced the promotion of Nicole Nevel to Nanticoke Community Office Manager, where she will be responsible for the daily operations of the branch, as well as generating new business and providing excellent customer service.

“We are delighted to have Nicole lead our Nanticoke Community Office,” said Deborah Kennedy, FNCB Bank Vice-President, Retail Market Manager. “She is very familiar with the Nanticoke community and possesses all the qualities and characteristics to serve our customers and staff well.”

Prior to her promotion, Mrs. Nevel served as a Personal Banker in the Nanticoke Office. Before joining FNCB Bank, she was a teller, head teller, PBR, and acting assistant manager at First National Bank, along with serving as a Veterinary Technician at Sweet Valley Veterinary Clinic.

She is a graduate of Northwest Area Junior Senior High School and Allied Medical and Technical Careers where she received an Animal Care Technician diploma. As an active member of the community, she has volunteered for numerous causes including as a girl scout leader for eight years. She resides in Ross Township, Shickshinny with her husband Phillip “Rick” Nevel and children Corey Lynn, Kylie Ann, and Benjamin.

Citizens Savings Bank Names New President and CEO

Raymond C. Hebden was recently named as President & CEO of Citizens Savings Bank.

A veteran with over 25 years of financial services industry experience, having worked previously as a CEO at two credit unions. Mr. Hebden has held numerous leadership positions in local financial institutions and has an extensive background in all lending and lending operations.

“We’re confident that Mr. Hebden can guide our bank into the future. He has a great track record of strategic insights and growth,” said Douglas G. Allen, Chairman of the Board.

Mr. Hebden has been an active member of several local Northeastern PA community organizations, such as Lackawanna, Luzerne and Montgomery Chambers of Commerce, a member of the Mayfield Crime Watch, the Honesdale Area Jaycees, and a coach on various local school district sports teams.

Mr. Hebden earned his undergraduate degree in business administration from Wilkes University.He attended the PA Banker’s Association Advanced School of Banking at Bucknell University and The Stonier Graduate School of Banking at The University of Pennsylvania. He also successfully completed the Wayne County Leadership Program.

Northeast Regional Cancer Institute Announces Staff Promotion

The Northeast Regional Cancer Institute’s President, Karen Saunders, recently announced a staff promotion of Ms. Karen Ryczak from Director-Surveillance & Navigation Programs to Vice President- Programs & Surveillance.

 Karen Ryczak, RN, of Archbald, has over 30 years of experience in oncology and will provide organizational supervision and management of Community and Patient Services programs in her new role.  In addition, she will continue to manage the Cancer Surveillance Program, including providing an annual report on cancer to the community.  Ryczak, who attended the University of Scranton and is a graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing has been an employee of the Cancer Institute since 2000. 

HNB Promotes Lisa Valentine Promoted to AVP, Branch Manager

Thomas E. Sheridan, President and CEO of The Honesdale National Bank, announced Lisa Valentine has been promoted to Assistant Vice President, Branch Manager overseeing the HNB Montdale Office.

In her current role as Branch Manager, she is responsible for managing the daily operations of the HNB Montdale Office, building customer relationships, and capitalizing on opportunities to grow business opportunities.

Valentine has 18 years of experience in the financial industry. She started as a part time teller at HNB, then teller/CSR, was promoted to head teller, then Assistant Branch Manager, to her current role as Branch Manager at the Montdale Office.

In mentioning her role at HNB, Valentine said, “I’m grateful to HNB for giving me the opportunity to advance in my career. I love getting to know customers and helping them with their financial needs.”

She currently lives in Lenox Township on her family farm. She graduated from Forest City Regional School District.

Outside of the bank, her spare time is spent gardening, hiking and exploring the outdoors.

HNB Promotes Vice President, Chief Operations Officer

Thomas E. Sheridan Jr., President and CEO of The Honesdale National Bank, announced the promotion of Kathy Enslin to Vice President, Chief Operations Officer.

Enslin joined The Honesdale National Bank in 1999 as an Assistant Vice President, Bookkeeping after spending 24 years with another area financial institution. In that role, she was an integral player in the oversight and development of many procedures and advancements that supported the Bank’s core account management and transaction workflows.  Enslin previously held the position of VP, Deposit Operations Officer for several years at HNB prior to her promotion to Vice President, Compliance Officer in 2015.
