Johnson College to Host Transfer Day Johnson College is holding a Transfer Day on Thursday, July 31, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its Scranton and Hazleton campuses. The College is encouraging current college students who are interested in changing the direction of their education and ultimately their career path to visit its campus. Students will meet with Enrollment, Financial Aid, Career Services, and Counseling and Disability Services representatives. In addition, staff members from the Registrar’s Office will be on hand for transfer credit analyses and to review potential schedules for the upcoming semester. Students will learn why Johnson College is the leader in hands-on education, how it exposes students to industry from day one, and how its two-year degree programs, focusing on careers in in-demand industries, have the highest return on investment in the short term. Treasurer Stacy Garrity Announces S&P’s Highest Credit Rating Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced today that Standard and Poor’s Global Ratings (S&P) has reaffirmed the highest credit rating possible, AAAm, for Treasury’s INVEST program pools. INVEST, managed by the Pennsylvania Treasury Department, is an investment tool specifically designed for local government agencies and nonprofit organizations. “Earning S&P’s highest rating for our INVEST pools is a tremendous honor, and it reflects the hard work we’re doing to help local governments and nonprofits across Pennsylvania maximize their investment capabilities,” Treasurer Garrity said. “Many of these entities have extremely tight budgets, so helping them invest and grow their funds is important. Treasury is glad to provide this program to help organizations fund critical projects that improve the lives of Pennsylvanians.” INVEST participants include local government agencies and nonprofits including municipalities, counties, school districts, fire companies, libraries and many others. There are two pools in INVEST, the Daily Pool for local governments and the Community Pool for nonprofit organizations. Ratings affirmations were for both pools. Both pools provide daily liquidity, with no minimum balance requirements, no minimum deposit amounts and no limit on the number of transactions an organization can make. Treasury may also offer periodic custom investment opportunities for longer-term financial needs of participants. AAAm is the highest rating established by S&P. Criteria for this rating includes a fund that, according to S&P, “demonstrates extremely strong capacity to maintain principal stability and to limit exposure to principal losses due to credit risk.” Treasury’s investment staff has managed INVEST for over 30 years. In Fiscal Year 2023-24, participants shared more than $75 million in earnings. More than 450 INVEST participants currently have over $1.6 billion in assets. Scranton Cultural Center Announces Studio Two: The Early Beatles Tribute The Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple will present Studio Two: The Early Beatles Tribute on October 11 at 7:30 PM in Shopland Hall. Voted as ‘New England’s Best Beatles Tribute Band’ by “The Boston Globe,” Beatles tribute band, Studio Two will return by popular demand with their iconic show in celebration of The Beatles coming to America. Studio Two, now entering its 11th year, is a headlining Beatles band featuring Berklee College of Music Alum who focus on the most exciting, energetic period of The Beatles: the early years (1962 – 1966). Choosing from a catalog of number one hit songs from their club and touring performances, Studio Two captures all of the excitement and danceable 50s and 60s Rock ‘n’ Roll songs The Beatles helped popularize. Completing this stellar show are period attire as well as equipment, transporting audiences back in time. The show will take place in Shopland Hall, located on the building’s fourth floor, with doors opening for bar and concessions at 6:30 PM. Scranton Area Community Foundation to Benefit from Shine Like Susan 5K The Scranton Area Community Foundation will receive donations from a group of Abington Heights High School students from the Class of 2025 and members of the school’s cross country and track and field teams have gathered to organize the upcoming 3rd annual Shine Like Susan 5K, a race in memory of Susan Burke, who lost her battle with colon cancer in 2022. The race will raise money to benefit the Susan Burke Foundation for Colon Cancer, a fund established in 2022 at the Scranton Area Community Foundation by the family of Susan Burke to provide support to individuals with a colon cancer diagnosis who are experiencing financial hardship. The Shine Like Susan 5K will occur at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Abington Heights Middle School. All proceeds will benefit the Susan Burke Foundation for Colon Cancer at the Scranton Area Community Foundation. The event will include a free kids’ fun run (ages 8 and under), raffle baskets, music, course guides, and more. Interested parties can register online at www.runsignup.com/shinelikesusan. The Shine Like Susan 5K registration fee is $25 online and $30 on race day.
