Mohegan Pennsylvania: This summer, A Tribune to Tina Tuner

Mohegan Pennsylvania is proud to host the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic as they present Simply the Best: A Tribute to Tina Turner on Saturday, June 7th. Under the baton of Maestra Mélisse Brunet and Scott Coulter’s Spot On Entertainment, this iconic performance honoring one of music’s most legendary superstars starts at 7:30 pm in the Keystone Grand Ballroom.

“We’re delighted to welcome NEPA Philharmonic back to Mohegan Pennsylvania for the first time since 2016,” said Tony Carlucci, President & General Manager at Mohegan Pennsylvania. “This partnership is a great match. Their mission statement for this concert season references building bridges, which we can relate to because we’re also dedicated to building bridges with our local community. Our guests are in for a treat as this trio of incredible talent will perform some of the greatest hits in music history.”

Tickets to Simply the Best: A Tribute to Tina Turner are on sale now via the NEPA Philharmonic website or the Philharmonic Ticket Hotline at 570.270.444. Will Call, located at the entrance of the Convention Center, opens at 6:00pm and the pre-function space (including a cash bar) opens at 6:30pm. Doors to the Keystone Grand Ballroom open at 7:00pm.

Performed by a trio of singers, including two-time Grammy Award-winning vocalist Tamika Lawrence and Broadway’s Shaleah Adkisson, Simply the Best celebrates the stories and songs that made Tina Turner one of the greatest performers the world has ever known. Guests will get the chance to rock out to classics like “Proud Mary”, “River Deep – Mountain High”, “Private Dancer”, “Better Be Good to Me” and more, including the number one hit, “What’s Love Got to Do With It”.

The Philharmonic Pops series is sponsored by the PNC Foundation in collaboration with Dr. Seth W. And Carolyn Fisher.  Additional sponsors include Munley Law and Pat Atkins & Family.

This is an all-ages show, however, most areas of Mohegan Pennsylvania are 21+ including the hotel, casino floor and most restaurants. All guests under 21 must be accompanied by an adult, enter via the hotel and convention center entrance and proceed directly to the Keystone Grand Ballroom.

Misericordia University Pauly Friedman Art Gallery Opens New Exhibit

Misericordia University’s Pauly Friedman Art Gallery exhibits “Personal to Political: Celebrating the African American Artists of Paulson Fontaine Press” through March 29, 2025.

This exhibition features works by seventeen African American artists who have helped to shape the contemporary art conversation in the Bay Area and beyond. Works draw from history, traditional crafts, geography, and personal memory to show a variety and breadth of printmaking techniques. At the heart of this show is a Berkeley-based fine art print studio, Paulson Fontaine Press, who over the past two decades has developed an unparalleled roster of internationally celebrated artists, including Kerry James Marshall and the Gee’s Bend Quilters.

The public is invited to explore these artworks through educational events.

Three Pointer Art Talk: On Wednesday, February 19, 12:20 pm – 1:20 pm, three Misericordia professors will relate three works from the show to hot topics in their disciplines. Allan Austin, PhD, History; Maureen Pascal, DPT, Physical Therapy; Richard Hancuff, PhD, English.

Community-Created Installation: On Friday, February 21, 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm, volunteers are needed to help inflate and stack the 650 basketballs required to build David Huffman’s social sculpture installation, “Basketball Pyramid.”

Gallery Talk and Reception, Three Pointer Art Talk: On Thursday, March 20, 4:30 pm – 6:15 pm, Lalaine

B. Little, PhD, Gallery Director, will speak on the six prints in the exhibition based on quilt patterns by artisans from Gee’s Bend in Alabama.

All exhibits and programs are free and open to the public.

Johnson College Hosts Appliance Recycling Event

Appliance Recycling Event – April 4th from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm and April 5th from 10:00am – 3:00 pm. This is a free event that is open to the public. There is no limit on the number of items that can be brought to campus. However, only items with refrigerant will be accepted.  Students, staff, and volunteers will remove refrigerants, ensuring proper disposal.

Johnson College Offers OSHA 10 Course

OSHA 10 for General Industry training begins on March 11. The schedule is as follows – Tuesday 3/11 5:30pm – 8:45pm, Thursday 3/13 5:30pm – 8:45pm, Saturday 3/15 10:00am – 2:30pm.  The class will be taught at the Scranton Campus by a certified OTI instructor.  The registration fee is $225.

Johnson College Offers AutoCAD Course

AutoCAD, is scheduled to start on Monday, March 3, and will run every Monday night from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm for five weeks at the Scranton Campus.  The registration fee for the AutoCAD program is $500. The minimum age for all programs is 16.

Johnson College Hosts Test Taking 101 Course

Test Taking 101 is a free one-night course that teaches students different techniques for becoming more successful in taking standardized tests. The class will be held at our Scranton Campus on Thursday, February 27th, from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Johnson College Receives $7,500 EITC Contribution from Fastenal

Johnson College received a $7,500 EITC contribution from Fastenal to support the College’s Industry Fast Track and STEM Outreach Programs.

The Industry Fast Track Program (IFT) is a joint partnership with area school districts and the College. The program offers high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to simultaneously enroll in secondary and post-secondary coursework on the Johnson College campus. Students remain enrolled full-time at their high school while attending classes at Johnson College.

Through its STEM Outreach, Johnson College utilizes its experience in providing industry-focused technical education to expand its outreach to elementary, middle, and high school students. The outreach raises awareness of the benefits of STEM education and the possibilities of achieving economic independence through employment in a STEM career field.

Fastenal’s contribution to Johnson College is part of Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program, administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
