Bob Durkin has served as president and chief executive officer of The Chamber since 2013. In his role as CEO, Durkin oversees planning, finances, staffing and programing of The Chamber and its affiliates – Scranton Lackawanna Industrial Building Company (SLIBCO), Lackawanna Industrial Fund Enterprises (LIFE), MetroAction, Leadership Lackawanna, Skills in Scranton, and The Scranton Plan. Durkin served as president of the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute, a northeastern Pennsylvania wide non-profit community and patient support, cancer registry, hospital and practice support, and research consortium; and prior to that, served as founding executive director of the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority – a regional community development partnership. He held the position of vice president of The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce from 1988 -1993; and has worked in various capacities in the non-profit and regional government arenas. He is a graduate of Penn State University, has undertaken advanced studies at the Institute for Public Administration at Penn State University, and completed studies at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Institute for Organizational Management at the University of Delaware. He is a member of the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives Major Cities Roundtable, Penn State Worthington Scranton Campus Advisory Board, Lackawanna College President’s Advisory Board, board member of the Foundation for Free Enterprise Education, board member of the Wells Fargo Regional Foundation and the Wells Fargo Regional Community Development Corporation, board member of the Prostate Cancer Awareness Association, Chairman of Board of The Arc of NEPA, board member of the Parents of Down Syndrome of Northeastern Pennsylvania, and is active as a coach and leader of regional Challenger (Special Needs) sports, and Special Olympics.
