Steamtown National Historic Site Announces 2022 Train Schedule Train rides are returning to Steamtown National Historic Site (NHS) beginning Saturday, May 14, 2022 and coinciding with National Train Day. The Steamtown rail experience varies from short 30-minute trips exploring the park’s historic railroad yard to full-day trips through the Poconos. Short train rides, the Scranton Limited and Caboose Experience, will begin on Saturday, May 14th. The first excursion trip of the season will take place on Saturday, May 28th to Jessup, PA allowing visitors to experience the annual Saint Ubaldo Day “Running of the Saints” (La Corsa dei Ceri). New for the 2022 season, all ticket sales will be credit card only. Starting Tuesday, April 19th visitors will be able to purchase advance tickets online through recreation.gov for our summer excursions (May-Aug.); tickets for our autumn excursions (Sep.-Oct.) will be released later in the season on Friday, July 15th. Tickets for our short train rides, the Scranton Limited and Caboose Experience, will not be available for advance purchase online and must be purchased on-site at the Information Kiosk, the day of your visit. Beginning Saturday, May 14th: · The Scranton Limited or the Caboose Experience will operate on Saturdays and Sundays, as staffing permits. Departure times are: 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:30pm, and 2:30pm. · Tickets are $6 for adults and kids over the age of 5; kids 5 and under are free. Railfest to Return to Steamtown National Historic Site Steamtown National Historic Site (NHS) is pleased to announce the return of Railfest on Saturday-Sunday, June 11-12, 2022. This year’s celebration will be offered in partnership with the Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage Museum’s Arts on Fire event at the Scranton Iron Furnaces. Both sites are excited to be collaborating to provide an interactive and immersive experience showcasing our community’s history. New for 2022: there will be no cost of admission for the event! “Stuff the Caboose” for United Neighborhood Centers of Northern Pennsylvania Steamtown National Historic Site (NHS) invites the public to “Stuff the Caboose” and enjoy some holiday cheer on Saturday, November 20, 2021 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. This free family event will take place at Steamtown NHS, located at 350 Cliff Street in Scranton. The holiday season is just around the corner! Steamtown NHS and its partners are asking for your help to restock the United Neighborhood Centers of NEPA Food Pantry with non-perishable food items. Enjoy musical entertainment performed by the Lennoxville Community Band, police and fire equipment, “Ring of Fire” demonstrations, costumed mascots, and locomotives decked with holiday lights. Visitors will also have photo opportunities with the former Nay Aug Park Miniature Train to capture new memories or relive those from long ago! This year’s event will be held outdoors, and visitors should dress appropriately for weather conditions. Steamtown NHS Prepares for Summer Visitors Steamtown National Historic Site (NHS) employees have been gearing up and getting things on track for summer operations. The National Park Service (NPS) works closely with the NPS Office of Public Health to monitor and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic using the latest science to support decision making. Consistent with CDC recommendations, people who are not fully vaccinated must continue to wear masks indoors and in crowded outdoor spaces. Masks are required for everyone on all forms of public transportation. Please note: all dates are subject to change depending on local (Lackawanna County) COVID-19 levels. Beginning Saturday, June 26 * Summer hours of 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. go into effect.* The Theater will open and daily showings of “Steel and Steam” will resume.* With public health in mind, the Imagination Station remains closed. Beginning Wednesday, July 7 * The History Museum, including the Post Office car and Erie Business car, will reopen, however the Archeology Pit remains closed.
